Covid-19 and verb posters

If you've seen our Twitter or Facebook feeds this weekend, you'll have seen that I have made some Covid-19 posters for the classroom.

French Covid-19 posters are now available to download from here

Spanish Covid-19 posters are available to download from here

You may also have seen some graphics with different tenses of high-frequency verbs on our social feeds.  These can now be downloaded from here.

When I uploaded the last batch of resources a couple of days ago, I did a quick count, and the site had 6993 resources on it.  These 26 new resources take the total to over 7000, so I have been able to change the description on the homepage!  We are now "a site packed with over 7000 language resources", all of them absolutely free.

All of these resources are available to you absolutely free of charge.  I have not been and will not be paid for making them.  Please consider making a donation to the future of the website

25 new resources today

I've just uploaded 25 new resources, all of them for KS2 French:
  • 20 knowledge organisers  Following much discussion with teachers in the Languages in Primary Schools (LiPS) Facebook group about phonics, I decided to leave the key sounds boxes on the KOs blank. Teachers can fill in their own key sounds prior to copying, and then children can go through underlining or dotting or boxing key graphemes when they come to use the KO.  There were too many key sounds in each KO to fit in to the key sounds space, and I found I was underlining most of the text, which defeats the object!
  • Last sentence builders, for Jobs, Hair and eyes, Weather and En ville.

DON'T FORGET: Display resources for FrenchSpanish and German, just right for your new classroom!

All of these resources are available to you absolutely free of charge.  I have not been and will not be paid for making them.  Please consider making a donation to the future of the website

68 new resources today!

I've just finished uploading 68 new resources to the website:
  • 19 minibooks for primary French - all can be found on this page  The easiest way to find them will be (on a computer) to do CTRL+F and type into the box either "3.7.20" (date of upload) or "minibook".  On a smartphone or tablet tap the 3 dots in the top right corner and say select "Find in page", and type in the same information.
  • 19 minibooks for primary Spanish, at least one for each unit of the scheme of work.  Looked at in a sequence, these show well the progression of the scheme.
  • "I can" cards for the 18 units of the new KS2 Spanish scheme of work, underneath the scheme of work documents
  • Various new sentence builders and odd one out activities for KS2 Spanish, many of them for the new unit 17, and also some for units 8, 9, 10, 13 and 16.

DON'T FORGET:  Lumen's Language Challenges - arts and crafts with a language theme, ideal for the end of term

DON'T FORGET: Learn Spanish at home - 58 videos and accompanying activities for home study, good for non-specialists who want to upskill, as well as children!

DON'T FORGET: Display resources for French, Spanish and German, just right for your new classroom!

New Knowledge Organisers for KS2 Spanish

People have been asking about the knowledge organisers to accompany my new scheme of work for Key Stage 2 (age 7-11) Spanish, so I have uploaded all 20 of them now that they are finished (20, because 2 units needed 2  - it simply wouldn't fit all on 1 sheet!)  You'll find them here.  Thank you to all the LiPS (Languages in Primary Schools) members for their constructive feedback and suggestions.

All of these resources are available to you absolutely free of charge.  I have not been and will not be paid for making them.  It took 5 days to make these 20 Knowledge Organisers.  Please consider making a donation to the future of the website.

New scheme of work for Key Stage 2 Spanish

If you are a regular visitor to the Primary Spanish pages of the website, you'll notice that there have been some big changes.

I have completed my new scheme of work (read its story here), and have uploaded it to the site - click on Scheme of Work for all the documents.  The previous scheme is still there, in a zipped file called Legacy Scheme.

The new units and changed units have required a big change around of the resources.  The resources are now in the order of the new scheme, but I haven't deleted any, so you'll still find all your favourites, just maybe in a different place.

I have a big long list of new resources to make to accompany the new scheme.  You can subscribe to this blog by filling in the "Follow by email" box on the right hand side under the labels.  That way you won't miss any news about new resources.

I made the images in Canva, by the way.  Did you know that if you can prove to Canva that you're a teacher, you can get a free Pro account?

All of these resources are available to you absolutely free of charge.  I have not been and will not be paid for making them.  Please consider making a donation to the future of the website.

Learn Spanish at home

Light Bulb Languages is hosting a series of video lessons for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Spanish.  The lessons follow the scheme of work on the website with a few alterations that are part of a restructuring of the scheme that will be online soon.

You may have heard of or seen the Spanish lessons that are being offered by the Oak National Academy.  However their lessons are assuming that all the children are starting from scratch.  The Light Bulb Languages lessons so far have lessons for Years 1-3, and more will be added so as to provide something for all year groups.

Each lesson has accompanying activities, which might be games, songs or downloadable reading and writing activities.

The downloadable guide for parents and teachers shows the overview of the lessons.

All feedback is welcome :)

All of these resources are available to you absolutely free of charge.  I have not been and will not be paid for making them.  It takes a day to make three videos.  Please consider making a donation to the future of the website.

Lumen's Language Challenges

Following on from yesterday's post about how Light Bulb Languages can help with home learning I've been working on the site today.

I've checked all the French interactives to make sure they all work, and have added some more for Colours and Family.  I've made myself a list of others to add using educandy and Quizlet.  If there is a particular topic area that you'd like an interactive for, please let me know.  I still have Spanish and German to check.

The main addition to the site today is Lumen's Language Challenges.  From this page you can download the Lumen Awards in French, Spanish and German.  The Language Challenges are for children and grown-ups to do.  They  incorporate words in another language and arts and crafts, and provide a creative outlet which will help with wellbeing.

Please pass the link on to the young people that you know, and why not have a go at some of the challenges yourself?

I will post on this blog when a new challenge is added, so if you don't to miss one, subscribe using the "follow by email" box on the right hand side of the screen.

All Light Bulb Languages resources are provided free of charge.  Please consider making a donation to the website to enable more resources to be made.  Merci, gracias, danke and grazie.

How can Light Bulb Languages help with home learning?

*UPDATED 23.03.20*
*UPDATED 03.04.20*

Hello Light Bulb Languages users,

You may well be in the position of having to put together some kind of work pack for your students to complete while they are in isolation at home.

There are plenty of things on the website that will help you to do this.  For example:
I have chosen to stay at home for the forseeable future due to being in the at risk group.  This means that I can create and add to the site any resources that would be useful for you in supporting your classes or your own children.  I am intending to add to the interactives first.  Please let me know if there is any particular resource that you need, as a comment here or on the Facebook page or on Twitter

Take care and stay safe.

The first 23 new resources for 2020

I've just uploaded the first new resources of 2020:

Primary French: some resources for describing hair and eyes

Primary Spanish:  lots of resources for describing hair and eyes and some other bits and pieces about weather, town, and dates.

My Y4s do description of parts of the body and always find it tricky, so this year I've broken it right down into 4 very small steps:
Step 1: Hair + colour
Step 2: One eye + colour (still singular, but changing el to un)
Step 3: Eyes + colour (plural)
Step 4: Hair and eyes
Step 5 will be the different words for hair colours, for which there are already resources on the site.
You may notice in these resources all the faces with different coloured hair and eyes that I've had to make!

With reference to the Primary Spanish resources, there are so many (well over 800) that the page was becoming very unwieldy and slow to update.  I've split it up into 5 separate pages (Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6 and everything else!) but you'll see the same index at the top of each page so you shouldn't notice a big difference in your browsing experience.  However, if you have schemes of work or a school website etc with links to the page, you may have to edit your links.
